In what ways will your music video use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of other existing music video's?
My music video will develop and entail the use of creative and fasts cuts in the music video which is a convention of pop music as it correlates with the fast pace music and an exciting music video. Using this convention will be important as we know this is a successful technique used and is used by professionals for top quality music videos involving the genre of pop.
Moreover, the use of genre characteristics will also be applicable to our music video as we will develop this form and convention to make our video have the most professional effect and quality used as possible. By using a slow pace cut time and a slow story, this will correspond with a romantic style of music possibly a pop song or of the alternative music genre. We will include slow cuts and simple music video story line to help indulge the audience and help youth and elderly understand and enjoy it as it will be a fun pop song chosen with a romantic feeling relating to the audience of their past or for youth maybe their current self or their future.
We as a pair will also explore the relationships between lyrics and visuals by developing the use of lip syncing and close ups of individual characters to show importance and relevance of a character to a song to help the relation and understanding for an audience. We will use lip syncing in our final piece as we used it in a practise task it became a success and was fun as it proved our video good quality but more so, more professional and creative as it showed we overcame difficult tasks.
Another convention used for majority of music genres such as pop or alternative or even rap is the close up of the main character to show their importance within the music video and the song to help understand and enjoy the song more. Normally, these characters are attractive or relatable to help the audience feel more positive on the music video and gain it more support. We will use a relatable character or couple with the song as we will use romance and a couple to help the audience relate to the music video and reminisce or feel optimistic on the happy ending story line.
We will develop relationships with lyrics and songs by using lip-sync and actions to match lyrics. This means when lyrics contain actions or instructions the characters will implement this and almost play the lyrics like a script showing importance and relevance towards the song which also portrays creativity and quality as well as professionalism. we will also develop lip syncing to show creativity and show we have quality within our project.
However, we will challenge the fast cuts as we believe slower cuts will be more fundamental for our project and work better and be of better quality for a slower pop song with a romantic theme. by challenging this we show originality and creativity to go beyond and improve conventions to our advantage despite the risk. We hope slower cuts will help build a greater understanding of the story line and the relationship between the song and the music video.
Since childhood, i grew up listening to music and watching music videos whilst procrastinating in my spare time. By being heavily influenced by major artists and impressive music directors such as Warren Fu, I watched many videos and gained a greater experience within music videos and a greater understanding of the importance of them and the target audience.
I will demonstrate my inspiration by using the same conventions used by Warren Fu such as futurism and relationship between lyrics and visuals to integrate a top quality music video on the developed forms and conventions. This will show creativity but personal drive to achieve a successful video whilst being influenced by many individuals.
