POST 46 *UPDATED* - (FINAL) SONG CHOICE
Due to a mixed reaction from our rough music video draft we concluded with mix up's with actors and the difficulties in arranging our preferred shots became out of the question therefore we changed the song choice, the actors and the style of the music video to start from scratch and promote a more professional video to entertain the viewers.
The original song choice was Wonderwall. Despite this song being a all time classic, the Lip Syncing became technical and it was a long 3 minute song. This needed alot of footage and our actor did not suit the music video applied to the song and from that we knew changes had to be made to compete with the grade boundaries.
We conducted research online for a love song under 2 minutes that suited the warm weather as we collected some really attractive footage without film which we felt needed to be added. after brainstorming around some random footage we stumbled on the song 'Sea of Love' by Cat Power which was a song on the playlist of the film, Juno. The song was short and sweet and we acquired a perfect actor who could not only comfortably sing and play the song on the guitar but also fitted the music video we had brainstormed. here is the song below...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbMeAOTPJzM
Cat Power is a solo female artist whom has produced many songs throughout her career and despite being dated, she holds a very slow approach which can still comfort the audience and be of interest and she still gets promotions from 'Spotify' playlists and off YouTube as she has very classic love songs which stick to the forms and conventions of Love songs.
Here is her music video for another song..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVGgGW1ZalY
Cat Power does not have many on Youtube either due to popularity or funding but equally we can do her justice and promote her music in the most professional and fun way so stay tuned. big things coming...

POST 46 - (FINAL) - SONG CHOICE
Our final song choice for our music video is Wonderwall by Oasis.
Here are some music videos by Oasis including Wonderwall:
Here are some music videos by Oasis including Wonderwall:
There is a common theme between the Oasis videos, they all include the band and have slow camera movements. There are a lot of close up shots of Liam and Noels faces as they sing the lyrics to the song and they are nearly always sat down. The last thing is that they always use different length cuts making shots are either quicker or longer therefore never the same. Each video attracts the audience with the different settings and camera shots, and along with the eerie colours, people are attracted to the video and want to watch more.

POST 39 - (FINAL) FINAL IDEA BASED ON ALL PLANNING
BASED ON ALL RESEARCH AND PLANNING POSTS, WHAT IS YOUR FINAL IDEA FOR YOUR MUSIC VIDEO?
Our final idea is to use a storyline with the song Wonderwall by Oasis. The storyline involves a male and a female couple going through the stages of making up after a big fight which they thought had ended their relationship. It starts off with them fighting and then ignoring each other but then gradually goes into them talking and meeting again while finally ending with lots of quick cuts of the couple back together doing nice things with each other. During the short film, some things that are said by the male to the female are lyrics from the song so he will be lip syncing the words instead of just saying them. We plan to use a lot of natural costume and makeup while also using a few different settings such as city, house, car and maybe even school. This music video is aimed towards the teen/young adult age genre.
We will use our scripts and storyboards to help us with our music video.

POST 37 - (PLANNING) ANCILLARY TASK 2 : POSTER
ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR ALBUM POSTER THAT YOU REMEMBER AND WHY?
I do not remember any particular album posters mainly because I would never pay attention to them or they would never catch my eye. The main way I would know about an album is by word or mouth over social media and artists talking about them rather than a poster that I've seen out and about.
HOW IMPORTANT IS A POSTER TO YOU DECIDING WHETHER TO BUY THE ALBUM?
I do not believe a poster is as important in this day and age as it used to be. With the internet allowing word of mouth to spread things faster and to a wider population, posters are becoming less of a necessity. Another drawback to posters is the cost, however, posting on social media sites is free so its becoming more attractive to artists as its cheaper and a single post can reach more people than one single poster.
IN YOUR OPINION WHAT MAKES A GOOD POSTER?
I believe a poster should be simple yet bold. It should be something that people would want to look up the details of. A good poster should have a single image which relates to the album but turns heads with a good contrast of colours to attract people to it.
HOW MUCH SPACE SHOULD THE ACT AND TRACK NAME TAKE UP?
I believe that the track name and act should be very visible so that people know what the poster is for and who its by. Without this, the poster may just look like a picture of something with no link to anything. However, after a long time once the album and artists is well known, it is less of a necessity to have the track and act name on the poster as people will already know and associate the poster without the names to the track and act.
SHOULD THE IMAGE BE OF THE ACT OR A PIECE OF DESIGN WORK?
I believe that this can vary from poster to poster depending on what you want, for example, an act may want to have an image of themselves on the poster to let his audience know it is him; On the other hand, an act may just want a piece of artwork which people then associate their track to instead. This can vary depending on whether the act wants to push themselves forward or the track.
SHOULD THERE BE A COOMON THEME ACROOS THE POSTER AND CD COVER?
In my opinion, I think there should be a common link between the poster and CD cover so that when someone sees one out and about they will be able to remember the poster they saw the other day and realise this is the CD for it or the other way around. I believe if they do not link, people may struggle to associate the two and think they are unrelated.
DO YOU LIKE TO SEE A QUOTE AND/OR STAR RATING?
Personally, this is not necessary as music should be a personal preference so it does not matter what other people think.
SHOULD THE ACTS SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS BE ON THE POSTER SOMEWHERE?
To me, the acts having their social media accounts on their poster can bring lots of benefits. With the internet and social media being such a huge part of everyones lives, having an account which the acts can advertise on for free and reach a wide range of people will attract people. By putting these accounts on their poster it will allow people to search for them and find more to do with the act from their advertising on the accounts.
SHOULD THE RELEASE DATE AND WAYS OR PURCHASING BE SOMEWHERE ON THE POSTER?
These should be on the poster as this is what the poster was aimed for - to sell the CD. If these were not on there people would try to get the CD before it comes out and be let down or thin k that it isn't out yet. Another negative from not having these on the poster is that they may not have as many sales as expected due to people not knowing how to buy the CD or when they can buy it.
IS THE CHOICE OF FONT AND TEXT COLOUR IMPORTANT?
The choice of font and text colour can make or break a poster in my opinion. If the font and text colour do not appeal to people, then the poster will not be viewed in depth and remembered as the poster for that artists CD. However, if the not and text colour are good and very attractive, then the poster will be able to turn heads and gain more of an interest than what was probably expected.
HERE ARE SOME RESULTS WE HAD FROM A QUESTIONAIRRE

POST 36 - (PLANNING) ANCILLARY TASK 1 : DIGIPAK
ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR CD COVERS YOU REMEMBER AND WHY DO YOU REMEMBER THESE?
I remember many CD covers due to my parents being big music fans and having book shelves full of CDs which I used to look through. The ones I can remember today include: Screamadelica (Primal Scream), Abbey road (The Beatles) and Nevermind (Nirvana). I remember these ones as they either attracted me at that age by being colourful and bold but I also remember some because they are famous and very unique. For example, Screamadelica had colours which attracted me, Abbey road is very famous so I see it about lots and Nevermind's cover is something that turns heads.
HOW IMPORTANT IS THE COVER OF A CD WHEN BUYING IT AND WHY?
I believe that nowadays, the album cover is not important at all, with technology and online albums people don't even have to see the cover before they can listen to them for free and see if they like it. in my opinion, most people now buy a CD or album online or in shop based on an artist rather than CD cover design. People may be attracted buy some in shops but they are unlikely to buy it if they don't know the artist. However, if they are attracted by it online, they will be able to listen and try it out for free so people are more likely to listen to an album based on the CD cover online as it docent cost them anything. On the other hand, I believe that before the internet CD covers were a big influence in buying CDs as they were pretty much all you could go from unlike today when you can research and find out details and listen for free.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD CD COVER?
To me, a good CD cover should be original and unique so people say 'that's that artists cover' rather than it being mistaken for other artists CD covers. The cover should be bright and bold to catch peoples attention and include something that people will remember and think about to keep it in their minds.
HOW MUCH OF THE COVER SHOULD THE ACT NAME AND TRACK NAME TAKE UP?
I believe that this should be something that varies depending on what the cover and design looks like and what the artist wants, as long as both are visible it doesn't matter in my opinion.
SHOULD THE COVER IMAGE BE THE ACT OF A PEICE OF DESIGN WORK?
Again, I believe this depends on the artist and can vary with what style they want. Personally, I think that this an image of the act is not a necessity as it is the Artists/bands name that people are more likely to recognise rather than an image of them.
SHOULD THERE BE A COMMON THEME BETWEEN THE 4 PANELS OR 4 INDIVIDUAL IMAGES?
I think that there should be a theme between the 4 panels as it looks smoother and more attractive. If each is a different colour for example, then it looks tacky and unattractive to me.
WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED ON THE INSIDE PANELS AND THE BACK PANEL?
I believe there should be a few things on the inside and back panels, these include:
- The tracks included with the CD
- Details about the tracks and act
- Tour details if needed
- Any promotions
- Links to digital copies
- Names of other CDs/Albums by the act
DO YOU LIKE TO SEE THE LYRICS INCLUDED?
I personally don't mind if they do because I believe that you can learn and know the words just from listening. However, if a book of lyrics is included inside I wouldn't complain.
SHOULD THE ACTS SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS BE ATTACHED TO THE DIGIPAK SOMEWHERE?
I believe that these things should be included with lots of other online links as technology and the internet is such a big part of peoples lives nowadays.
SHOULD THE IMAGES INCLUDED LINK TO THE TRACK, GENRE OF MUSIC, NAME OF TRACK ETC?
I don't think that this is a necessity as some of the most famous Cd covers do not include any of these. However, I believe that these are good things to link it with as it gives the audience an insight into the tracks and may attract them to buy.
IS THE CHOICE OF FONT AND TEXT COLOUR IMPORTANT?
This is very important as this is what attracts many people to the CD, if it is tacky then people are a lot less likely to want to go and pick it up.

POST 35 - (PLANNING) REHEARSAL FOOTAGE
We set out a day where us and the potential cast met up and went through the script and storyboard. We did this so it is easier when we are filming and it is smoother as everyone understands what they are doing.

POST 34 - (PLANNING) DIRECTIONAL STYLE
We really want to be original with our ideas and filming for our music video however, with such influence from music videos on our TV which we consume daily its difficult to have your own style as so many have been exploited as the modern day successful song often comes with a music video and they differentiate depending on the genre.
One style we prefer and could base our style on was music video Director Warren Fu. from directing Daft Punk this engaged me and won many awards and the use of futurism and a calm lovable vibe fits with our music genre and use of love in our music video as we will base it around a relationship. With longer cuts and a slower cut will integrate a romantic feel towards the audience and make the music video more understandable and easier to watch especially if we choose a slow song like 'Wonder wall' as it will meet the requirements of the song.
Warren Fu inspired me to stick to what you know best.In most of the music videos he directed, Warren kept to a modern and futuristic set with a slow vibe throughout his work. he never went outside his comfort zone and still remained successful and creative. This inspired me to keep to what i feel comfortable with and what i can also relate to. last year i created a suspense action film and still to this day listen to a wide variety of music which gives me great experience and knowledge. I would not choose to do any music song i did not like and certainly wouldn't do a music video i did not understand as it wouldn't be me expressing myself nor feeling like i did my best.

POST 33 - (PLANNING) EDITING
In our script we have sectioned it off so we know when to cut each shot and enter the new one. We have also put the length of cuts and shots if they are different to what has been sectioned. We do not have a specific length of time for each shot but each shot will be linked to the lyrics of the song so editing them will be easy and they will all link ver nicely.
